Holy moly! I can’t believe that I could workout the way I used to. I used to be in amazing shape!!! Oh whaaaaa!
Note: I wore my mask the entire time and I’m not having any COVID symptoms.
Oh Lordy, I have some catch up to do. I used to spend two hours in the gym 3-4 times a week. I used to do 45-60 minutes on the recumbent stationary bike and an hour on the machines working upper and lower body parts.
Now, it’s hard to do 20 minutes on the same kind of bike. But, it’s a beginning. For now, because of my iffy rotator cuff and right knee, I’m doing baby weights. I’m only doing four machines: the leg extension, the inner and outer hip abductors, the leg press (one of my faves. I used to press 260-280 lbs), and the flies—rear delts and pectorals. Since my elbows are not up above my shoulders it doesn’t bother my rotator cuff. In fact, I think it’s helping. I hope I get to the point at which I can do the pull downs. They are so good at working back and shoulder muscles. I love using that machine.
Before Sunday, my last real workout was at the Casselberry Planet Fitness in about 2016. I still knew that my left knee was going to need replacement surgery—I’d known that for about five or six years. My last workout in Casselberry, I just knew the knee was done, but I had no insurance and really had no idea how I was going to get the treatment I needed.
Yep, I am a proponent of universal healthcare. Yep, costs more in taxes. Guess what? I don’t care, if EVERYONE GETS HEALTHCARE, it’s worth it, cause I’m not a selfish bitch.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it was a God send. My first year with Florida Blue was 2017. It still took two years to build up the courage to finally get to an orthopedic surgeon. Now, that knee is probably STILL the healthiest part of my body. It won’t be long before Dr. H. does the right knee, but I need the bunion evaluated first.
I didn’t know I was going to take this post down this path—my health issues and healthcare for all. I just think it’s tragic that a first world country such as the USA has one of the worst healthcare systems in the world. We have the best doctors and medical schools, so what the actual fuck? it’s completely unfair.
I just need to make sure I build a routine—a weekly routine.
I think the universe might be trying to tell me something. When I finished my workout, I entered the women’s locker room and the TV on the wall was showing a little tease on a show about Oregon and recreation there.
