It was a real place

This is the sign at Skipper’s Smokehouse, in Tampa. A Dorcey hangout and one of my former employers.

A Facebook friend messaged me and asked if the book title (previous blog) had anything to do with the Chech & Chong album. I doubted it was directly related so, being the Google Queen, I googled it.

No, The Big Bamboo was a real bar in Kississimmee. Dorcey describes it accurately in his novel. It’s a shame it’s gone. Seems as if Skipper’s and The Boo were kindred spirits.

Tim Dorcey uses a lot of real Florida landmarks in his Florida-based twisted novels.

He used to hang out at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa.
